Big Noise Theatre announces Non-Equity auditions for XANADU! A Greek muse inspires love, laughter and the world's first roller disco (yep!) in this glitter explosion based on the 1980 cult film.

This Tony Award-nominated, hilarious, roller skating, musical adventure about following your dreams despite the limitations others set for you, rolls along to the original hit score composed by pop-rock legends, Jeff Lynne and John Farrar.

Auditions will be held at St. Stephens Church, 1280 Prospect Ave, Des Plaines, IL 60018 - There is a large parking lot at the back of the church for you to park. One of the doors back there will have a sign marking the entrance to our audition space.

Character Breakdown:

Clio/Kira
Leader of the Muses. Tasked with helping artist Sonny Malone with inspiring him in his artistic dreams. Excellent comedic timing and very comfortable roller skating necessary.
Vocal range: G3 to A5

Sonny Malone
A street artist down on his luck that Clio/Kira is summoned to inspire. Not the brightest, but sincere and full of heart.
Vocal range: B3 to C6

Danny Maguire
Owner of the old Xanadu Theatre and a strong-headed businessman. He gave up his artistic endeavors for the almighty dollar, but is inspired again by Sonny and Kira. Doubles as Zeus.
Vocal range: A3 to C6

Melpomene
Muse of Tragedy and jealous of her younger sister Kira. Schemes with Calliope to bring Kira down. Bold and broad in comedy needed.
Vocal range: G3 to A5

Calliope
Muse of Epics and acts as Melpomene's sidekick in her evil undoing of Kira. Bold and broad in comedy needed.
Vocal range: G3 to A5

Muses
These tracks are the ensemble of the show with double casting of other roles. They work in unity to help Clio achieve their purpose as inspirations of great art. Although these roles are specified in dialogue as Clio/Kira's sisters, the muses transcend traditional notions of gender and Big Noise Theatre and the artistic staff invite and encourage any and all performers, regardless of gender, to audition for these roles.

Material To Prepare:
Bring a headshot and resume, if possible. Prepare a 32-bar cut of a 70s/80s hit/disco style song. Ideally show how you can make a bold choice in the same world of the show. Please be sure music is taped or in a binder. Bring your book in case you are asked to sing another. A dance call will occur at callbacks (by invitation). No skates required until callbacks.
