Allentown Public Theatre will hold auditions for The Teddy Bear Awards, Saturday, November 5 from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. Auditions will be held in Muhlenberg College's Red Door Cafe at Seegers Union, 2400 W. Chew St., Allentown.
The Teddy Bear Awards, a play by Peter Schmidt (with a cameo appearance by B’way and Off-B’way legend Jeff Weiss) follows Valley students, parents, directors, school board members and international conspirators in their mad pursuit of the Teddy Award for "Awesomest Musical Ever this Year." Local business leaders Jocko's Doggies and the SmokeStaxx Casino are proud to sponsor this song-and-dance, sturm-und-drang multimedia extravaganza, which will be presented in the cabaret setting of the Red Door Cafe in Seegers Union at Muhlenberg College.
The play is in two parts--Part I, January 5-7 and Part II, January 12-14—but either show is a world unto itself.
Jeff Weiss is the winner of several Obie Awards and has appeared in many Broadway productions, including Carousel, Hamlet, Henry IV, The Iceman Cometh, Ivanov, Our Town, and Present Laughter. Peter Schmidt has appeared in more than 70 shows around the country, at such regional theaters as the Pasadena Playhouse in Los Angeles, the Alley Theatre in Houston,and the Walnut Street Theatre in Philadelphia.
Sides will be given for cold readings. Singers should prepare 32 bars. Non-singers and all actor types are welcome. Stipend paid. Send headshots and resumes to audition@allentownpublictheatre.com.
